xanga home hello goodbye subscribe subs l&f Thanks
So here's the deal. I've had this site FOREVER. It started as a random quote site, then moved to icons, then icons/banners, then it was abandoned for a good couple months. It was revived as an "Oh I forgot about this site!" site, then a place to dump random textures I made on Photoshop. Now, it's just button templates and a layout tutorial. Hope it helps.

All of my resources and Photoshop tutorials can be found on entracte.

If you don't have Photoshop and don't feel like buying it, you can use the GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program), which basically does the same thing.  It can be downloaded here for free.  A site with good GIMP tutorials is the Glinted Brush, which also has good FAQs and resources.

Buttons

Buttons are easy to make, if you know what to do.  And it's not that hard to learn.  First, use a template like the ones I've provided, or make your own.  After you have your template, open it up in whatever image manipulation program you have (Photoshop, GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, even Paint works!) and type what you want it to say.  Save it and upload it to TinyPic or Imageshack.  Then use this code:

<a href=YOUR SITE URL HERE><img src=YOUR IMAGE URL HERE></a>

And there you have it! Your link button code.

Here are some basic 80 by 35 templates you can use.

I disabled comments so I wouldn't have to check this site for anything and my layout site is dead so yeah.

So you wanna make a layout?  Allright, I'll enlighten you. Just read on.

The Basic Layout Code

Worship the code. Respect the code. Love the code.

Colors

That code in the box above is black with white text stuff without any pictures or anything. Notice the #FFFFFF and #000000 things? Those are HEX CODES.  That's what gives your site color. So how do I get this things, you ask?  Go to your handy-dandy look and feel section, click on where you change a color for something and click a color on the palette. In the small box beside the color will be a string of letters and numbers, like the Fs and 0s mentioned before.  Copy that, stick it in somewhere the Fs or 0s were in the code and voila! No more black and white.

Images and Fonts

Whoohoo! Your colors are just the way you want them. But you want a header or background pic and your fonts are wicked fugly. For fonts, simply change where it says "helvetica" or whatever to what you want, like Quill or something.  Quick, easy headers can be designed on Mytheme Animation Studio or Paint.  If you want to get a little funky with it, you can use programs like Photoshop, or Gimp.  You can download Gimp for free HERE. After you've made it all beautiful, save it to your computer then upload it to the internet.  These sites are good:

1. Tinypic -- The links are short, but the words on your image gets blurred.

2. Photobucket -- This is good because you won't ever lose your codes because they're all under your screenname.

3. Imageshack -- This site is the best.  The words don't blur, it takes animations, and it takes files up to 1024 kilobytes, which is BIG. I use this for my headers.

Now that you've got your link, put this <img src="PUTYOURLINKHERE"> above everything else on your code.  To make it a background pic, put the image link where it says backgroundpic: ( LINKHERE)

Customize It

Blink Boxes

Go crazy with the blink boxes.  They're very versatile and fun to mess with.
